Wiggles
To my Grandma.
My biggest thanks goes out to my Grandmother, who has been taking such good care of Wiggles while I've been gone. I can not thank you enough Grandma, what you've done and are doing mean so much to me, words can not express it. I know that you must truly care for Me and Wiggles to all this for us, and I thank you for it. I appreciate everything you've done, and I hope you know the magnitude of my appreciation, gratefullness, and love.
Hello, this page is dedicated to my Miniature Dachshund, Wiggles! I love him very much and he is the reason I decided to create this site! I hope you all enjoy! Let me tell you about my dog and show you some pictures of him.

This is Wiggles, he was born in San Antonio, Texas on August 28th, 1999. We bought him from a pet store about 10 minutes away from the the base (my dad is in the Air Force) we were living on. He didn't have any papers but he was 200 bucks! My mom and I couldn't resist the cute little face he gave us when we looked at him. My mom had already had another Miniature Dachshund , Waddles, so we had to go ask my dad if we could get him. When we got home he had said yes so we immediatly went back out and got him before someone else did! Waddles didn't like him too much but she got used to him and now loves him dearly.

In 2000 we had to move to Virginia, this would be Wiggles' first move. He whined ALOT, we almost went crazy. But when we got there and got into a house he was ok. I had gotten four mice while living there and thats when I found out Wiggles had a fascination for rodents. My sister also got her first dog while we were there, Xena, a Miniature Pincher.

A year later, we had to move to Florida where we bought our very first house! We had to live off base but I loved the house. My mice passed away shortly after moving there from pnuemonia. Later I had gotten eight rats and two gerbils, (I'm a rodent freak) and Wiggles couldn't get enough of them. My mom also got two more dogs while we were there, they're both hers. They're Toy Chihuahuas who are brother and sister, Selena and Snoopy! My mom loves them very much. The next year my sister got her second dog, Luna, who is also a Min Pin, making us have a total of six dogs! Wiggles liked it alot in Florida but it was too hot and no snow. And of course he loved the house :).

We lived in Florida from February 9th, 2001 - August, 2004. My dad got orders to Japan which has been really hard. My sister couldn't go with us because she was over the age of twenty-one and had to stay in Florida. We also could only take two of our dogs with us. Wiggles and Waddles were too big to go on the plane with us and too small to go into the cargo room since it was in the summer. So we could only take Selena and Snoopy. I really miss Wiggles and can't wait too see him again! This is why I made this site! It is dedicated to Wiggles!

After we moved to Japan, we had to make some arrangements. Wiggles is with my Grandparents, he is doing pretty good and has become best friends with their dog, Rusty the Beagle! Waddles is staying with a family at my Uncle's church and she is VERY happy there. I miss Wiggles dearly and hopefully my Grandparents can bring him here if they come and visit. Well thanks for taking the time to read this and thanks for stopping by! I love you Wiggles!
The Surgery
On August 28th, 2005, we recieved a call from my Grandmother. She had told us that Wiggles had compressed his spinal disk and needed surgery to correct it. He had no feeling and couldn't move his back legs at all. I didn't take the news too well, I broke down crying at our dinning room table. The vet later told us that this was building up over time, thats just the way Dachshunds are. Because of their long spines, they're prone to back problems. Well, the surgery he needed was VERY expensive, we managed to get apporved for a vet card so we could afford the surgery. The surgery was done on September 6th. Wiggles had to stay in the vet for ten days afterwards to make sure everything was ok. The veterinary hospital was VERY nice to him and treated him very well. After Wiggles came home, he wasn't doing very well at all. He refused to walk and dragged his back legs which caused them to get carpet burns and scrapes. He also couldn't controll his bowel movements and had to wear diapers all the time otherwise he had accidents all day long. We were all afraid he might have to go into a Dog Wheelchair if he continued this. I had emailed a bunch of people who were VERY kind enough to help and me and direct me in the right direction to find all the information I needed. It is breaking my heart that I can't be there with Wiggles to help him get through this. I wish I could be there to take the time and work with him, and comfort him, but I'm not, and I know my Grandma is taking very good care of him and doing everything possible to make him comfortable. Thank you so much Grandma!
-UPDATE- October 20, 2005
Well, it's been a month since all this went on, and Wiggles is doing GREAT! He's doing almost everything independently. He can walk and play for two to three hours before starting to get tired. This is the progress he's made in just one month! I imagine he'll be back to normal within six months. If course, he'll never be 100% normal again, but I'm just glad he'll be ok =). I know it will take time and effort to work with him, but I love him more then anything, and I'm mor ethen willing to take that time to help him. Once again, I thank everyone who helped us with our situation. Thanks!
UPDATE - August, 2006
It has been about a year now, and Wiggles is doing ok. He walks and plays normally now! His bowel movements still are not under control, which is sad news, but it's not the end! I'm going to work with him as much as possible to help him through this when I return from Japan. I had hoped he would be more progressed by now, but sometimes it can take years for a dog to return to normalcy, even if it is not %100. I'm still just glad he was able to make it through this, and that he is living a happy life!
-UPDATE- Sunday, February 18, 2007.
On our last call to my Grandmother (Saturday, February 17, 2007), we recieved news that Wiggles is having more problems. My Grandmother woke up on Saturday, and noticed that Wiggles wasn't moving. She went down to pet him and he yelped as if he was in unbearing pain. She immediately called her veterinarian and got him in for an appointment. The doctor informed her that Wiggles is having problems with his thoracic spine. Wiggles is currently on steriods for treatment. The only way to find out which disk might be blown is to do a myelogram, which would probably permanently paralyze him. The steroids seem to be helping him through this. If the steriods work, he might have to have them on a regular basis. If the steroids do not work, he will be in pain all the time. We will know in about ten days. I'm trying my best to think positive about this (thank you Mom!), so please if you could say a prayer (even if you don't believe) for Wiggles, I would be eternally grateful. Thank you everyone for your concern and help. I will update this when I recieve more news.
-UDATE- February 24, 2007.
We called my Grandma again to recieve some news. She went to a local vet to get some pain killers for Wiggles, and the local vet reccomended a surgeon who specializes in back surgeries. If the vet things surgery will help relieve Wiggles' pain, then we will do the surgery. If not, then our option are limited. They have to wait untill Monday (February 26) to make an appointment. I will update then, please say a prayer for Wiggles. Thanks!

We recieved some WONDERFUL news from my Grandma! She said that the Wiggles is doing great! He is not in pain, is more willing to walk around, and has control of his bowel movements! She also said that he is more like he was before the first injury. He is still crated right now, so he doesn't strain anything while he is healing. The surgeon said to keep him on the steroids and see how he does, and if he does not relapse then he will not need any operations! I am so happy he is doing better and is not in pain and I pray that he will keep this up! Thank the Lord!

A few days ago we made our calls to my Grandma to get some more news.
It seems Wiggles had fallen back into a relapse, and was yelping again. So my Grandma took him to the surgeon to see if he could help. We actually got some news that may turn out to be good. It seems the first vet that my Grandma took Wiggles to didn't NOT diagnose Wiggles properly, and he doesn't need any surgery. The first vet did not even give Wiggles any pain medication, just steroids. The surgeon thinks Wiggles may have Osteoarthirits. He gave him Metacam for dogs. We will be calling ten days after Wiggles has been on the medication (March 10, 2007) to get an update. I will post another update then. Please say a prayer for Wiggles, thank you!
-UDATE- March 12, 2007.
The Metacam seems to be working with Wiggles! He is starting to be more active with walking and playing. It has only been a few days since he's been taking the medication, so I can't promise anything. Hopefully this is a sign for better days to come! I will update when I find out more.
-UDATE- March 17, 2007.
Wiggles has been on the Metacam for almost two weeks now and is doing MUCH better! He's is still having problems with keeping control of his bowel movements. I'm not sure if it's because he can't get control or he's being lazy. Hopefully we can "retrain" him or he'll gradually start getting control. I'd much rather deal with accidents then him being in pain. -dances-
-UDATE- March 24, 2007.
Wiggles has been on the Metacam for almost a month now and is still doing very well. I was afraid maybe he would become immune to it after a while, but it seems he hasn't. He's going to start taking the Metacam regularly (once a day). The vet said to keep on this which will help relieve his pain and let him do daily activities again! He is still having accidents, hopefully we can help him with that. I'm so glad things have turned around for the better! Thank you everyone for your prayers and concerns!
-UDATE- April 23, 2007.
We found out where we are moving to! We're going to Tyndall AFB, Panama City, Florida. We'll probably be moving late July or Early August. I will post when we're moving as I will not be able to update the site then.
-UDATE- April 23, 2007.
Sorry it took me so long to update. I was dog sitting our neighbors puppy, Max, for three weeks! He kept me pretty busy. =) I'll put some pictures up later (I'll let you know in the News page.). We called my Grandma and got some WONDERFUL news about Wiggles! He is doing so much better since he's been on the Metacam, my Grandma calls it his "Miracle Drug". He's his old playful self again and his hardely having any accidents. In the past month he's only had two accidents! He's making such good progress, that by the time we get home he'll be just like he was before we left! Either way, I'll be happy to see him. =)
